Dear Warrensburg Elementary Parents and Guardians:
WES continues to bustle with activity as we welcome the transitioning fall season. I hope you’ve taken a moment to appreciate the simple pleasures and the natural beauty around us, even amid our busy lives. This is a great opportunity to teach our children the importance of being present and valuing the wonders of each season.
With the holiday season around the corner, it’s also a good moment to reflect on the values of gratitude, kindness, and community. We are continually thankful for our wonderful school community and the partnership we share with all of you. Let’s work together to instill these values in our children as they learn the importance of citizenship and contributing positively to our community.
Please take a moment to review the upcoming events, meetings, and activities detailed in this newsletter. We encourage you to save, duplicate, or print it for your reference. Together, let’s ensure our students receive the best experiences both academically and socially.
Thank you for your unwavering support and commitment.
Sincerely,
Damian Switzer

We are thrilled to share the success of our recent Fire Safety Day, where our students had the opportunity to learn from the dedicated members of the local volunteer fire departments. A heartfelt thank you to the firefighters for their incredible commitment to our children's safety and well-being. The knowledge and insights they provided were invaluable, helping our students understand the critical role firefighters play in our community.
Through engaging presentations and hands-on demonstrations, our students not only learned essential fire safety skills but also enjoyed the interactive experience. The firefighters' patience in answering questions made the day both educational and enjoyable. We are grateful for the time and expertise the volunteer fire fighters invested in our school. Events like these leave a lasting impact on our students and help foster a safer community for everyone.

We’re excited to share that first grade parents/guardians were invited into WES to decorate pumpkins with their child. The pumpkins were generously donated by Mrs. Connolly and the Lehet family, making the day festive and memorable for all. A heartfelt thank you to all the teachers, parents, and volunteers who made this event possible.

Throughout the month of October, our K–5 students participated in Too Good for Drugs, a character-education program offering age-appropriate prevention information on alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. It emphasized five life skills: goal setting, decision making, social bonding, emotion identification and management, and communication.
Sixth graders engaged in Smart Talk: Cannabis/Nicotine Prevention & Awareness, from Stanford REACH Lab. This evidence-based curriculum aims to delay use by increasing health-risk awareness, exposing marketing tactics, and building refusal and coping skills. It included five interactive lessons, activities, and discussions to help students:
- Understand harms of cannabis and nicotine
- Recognize youth-targeted marketing via flavors and social media
- Strengthen refusal, harm-reduction, and coping strategies
- Reduce intentions and use
To support these important conversations, the curriculum provided discussion guides designed to foster open dialogue between students and trusted adults.

The front circle opened successfully this year, and we’re pleased with the results. To keep morning drop-off safe and efficient, please follow these guidelines:
- Pull your vehicle all the way up to the staff member at the front of the line, if possible.
- Drop off your child curbside.
- Stay in your vehicle until your child is safely out of the car.
We appreciate your cooperation and support!

During the school day, the only entrance available for school business is the main entrance door. If you need to enter the building during the day for any reason you will need to use the buzzer, and our Security Monitor/Greeter will then unlock the door for entrance. You will then need to sign in to the building or sign your child out/in depending on the purpose of your visit. All visitors are expected to show proper identification and will be issued a temporary picture identification badge.

Regular school attendance is crucial for your child's academic success and social development.
When students attend school consistently, they not only keep up with lessons and important skills, but they also engage with their peers, fostering friendships and teamwork. Every day in the classroom provides unique learning experiences that contribute to your child’s growth.
If your child is absent from school, please contact Mrs. Seeley in the attendance office with the reason for the absence. She can be reached by phone at #518-623-9747 x197 or via email: seeleyk@wcsd.org. Our school uses Parent Square to contact you when the reason for an absence is unclear. Please ensure your contact information is up to date so you don’t miss important messages.
