Monthly Newsletter - March 2026

Dear Warrensburg Elementary Parents and Guardians:
Time truly flies when we’re learning and growing together! Faculty and staff at WES continue to collaborate to ensure students develop the skills necessary to succeed by making learning relevant and engaging. Life in our 21st-century society requires learning in many areas—cognitive, social, emotional, and physical—in other words, education for the whole child. Students can be seen reading, writing, and working collaboratively to solve problems in their classrooms around the building. They continue to grow and progress as they engage with the content across the curriculum. #Empowered

I-Ready Magnetic Literacy and I-Ready Math: This year, our district is piloting I-Ready Magnetic Literacy as a Core ELA program. With the district already using I-Ready Math and seeing its impact on improving our students' numeracy skills and critical thinking abilities, moving to pilot I-Ready's ELA program is an effort to strengthen the support and efforts of our students in Literacy in a similar fashion. With I-Ready receiving complementary reviews as a comprehensive curriculum, we are continuing to find ways to strengthen the quality of instruction that students receive in ELA and Math.

State Assessments Prep for Grades 3-6: As state assessments approach, we're enhancing our focus on keyboarding skills alongside the foundational abilities crucial for our students' success during testing. We encourage families to support their children at home by practicing these skills and discussing the importance of these assessments. We can’t wait to see how well they do!

Grade 4-6 Musical: Willy Wonka Jr.: We are excited to announce that our talented Grades 4-6 students, along with their dedicated directors, will proudly present the musical "Willy Wonka Jr." on April 24th and 25th at 7:00 PM at Warrensburg High School. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to showcase their hard work and creativity! There will be pre-sale tickets that will be sold at the beginning of April as well as having the option to purchase tickets at the door. Come out and support our young performers!

The journey ahead is filled with opportunities for growth, learning, and achievement. With our dedicated staff, supportive families, and amazing students, there's no limit to what we can accomplish. Let's continue to work together, embrace challenges, and celebrate successes as we make this school year truly remarkable.

Thank you once again for your continued support and partnership!

Sincerely,
Mr. Damian Switzer
Interim Elementary Principal

WES Pre-Kindergarten Program: 2026-2027 School Year

Residents of the Warrensburg Central School District who have a child that will be four years old on or before December 1, 2026 are eligible to enroll in the Warrensburg Elementary School Pre-Kindergarten program for the 2026-2027 school year.

The Pre-Kindergarten program is a full day program that runs from 8:00am-2:30pm, Monday through Friday. Due to the limited number of spaces available, students will be selected through a lottery process. An email will be sent to parents indicating whether their child has been accepted into the program or placed on the waitlist, based on lottery number. We will continue enrolling students from the waitlist as spots become available throughout the school year.

To ensure eligibility for the lottery, please complete the Enrollment Packet and return it to the District Registrar by March 20, 2026. Submitting the packet after this deadline will not allow your child to be placed on the lottery list. Enrollment packets can be obtained from the main offices at the Elementary School, the Jr/Sr High School, or from the district website at www.wcsd.org.

If you would like further information about the Pre-Kindergarten program, please contact the Elementary School Secretary at 518-623-9747 ext. 191, or the District Registrar at 518-623-2861 ext. 224.

Peer Leaders - Grade 6

The WES Peer Leaders are a select group of Sixth Grade students chosen by teachers for their leadership qualities. Peer Leaders create a positive school atmosphere based on good citizenship and service to their fellow students. Some examples of their work include reading to younger students, promoting schoolwide bullying prevention, Spirit Week activities, Morning Announcements and Pride Assembly helpers. Peer Leaders also plan and advocate for various projects that benefit the entire WES student body. This year, Peer Leaders donated food items to a local food pantry.

P2 Pride Assembly Program

Warrensburg Elementary School reinforces that everyone in our building is expected to follow the rules of being Safe, Responsible, and Respectful in all areas of the school. Each month, we host a WES PRIDE Assembly to reinforce these behaviors and to recognize students who exemplify P2 Pride characteristics.

Stay tuned for more information as we celebrate our students and their #EMPOWERED positive actions that inspire our entire school community!

WES Positivity Project Themes

March Character Strength: Appreciation of Excellence and Beauty - Appreciation of beauty and excellence is the ability to identify and enjoy that which is admirable in the world.
There are three types of goodness in which positive psychology focuses: physical beauty (e.g. a sunset, song, or building); an exceptional skill or talent; and moral goodness (e.g. a character strength). Appreciation of beauty can generate awe; appreciation of a skill can generate admiration; and appreciation of moral goodness can generate moral elevation. All of these feelings (awe, admiration, and moral elevation) help us forget ourselves and find increased joy and meaning in the world.

Battle of the Books

WES proudly supports three Battle of the Books Teams - a Fourth Grade Team coached by Mrs. Casabonne, a Fifth Grade Team coached by Ms. Delaney and a Sixth Grade Team coached by Mrs. Chhim-Parisi - that are competing in the WSWHE BOCES Battle of the Books Competition in February and March. Battle of the Books is an event that promotes literacy and a love of reading. Each team member has read a total of nine fiction and non-fiction books over the course of this school year in order to be able to compete in several competitive reading events.

Our first event was held at Lake George Elementary School and our teams did very well competing against Lake George, Queensbury and St. Mary's students. Battle of the Books is a great opportunity for students who love books to connect with their peers who also love books. It encourages students to read books that they might not select on their own, and often end up loving. Students also learn to work as a team, while having fun with reading and learning.

Student Council - Grades 4-5

Newly elected officers:
  • President- Ada Haynes, Vice President- Taylor Olden, Secretary- Avery Beadnell, Treasurer- Kendall Beadnell
  • During the last meeting students gave their speeches and voted for officers.
  • Participants came up with a list of ideas for fundraising/ school activities that we will be voting on at our next 2 meetings.

Kids Heart Challenge:

Warrensburg Central School District is proud to participate in the American Heart Association's fundraising event for the 24th consecutive year. This voluntary activity for our students and community has been a tradition in February/March, aligning with Heart Month and providing a meaningful activity during the long month of March. In 2022, our elementary school exceeded $50,000 in donations. At the kick-off, we share informational videos with students, preparing them for participation if their parents choose to support the cause. Following a three-week fundraising period, students enjoy a celebration with various activities in the main gym and GP room during their PE classes.

Attendance:

Regular school attendance is crucial for your child's academic success and social development.
When students attend school consistently, they not only keep up with lessons and important skills, but they also engage with their peers, fostering friendships and teamwork. Every day in the classroom provides unique learning experiences that contribute to your child’s growth.

If your child is absent from school, please contact Mrs. Seeley in the attendance office with the reason for the absence. She can be reached by phone at #518-623-9747 x197 or via email: seeleyk@wcsd.org. Our school uses Parent Square to contact you when the reason for an absence is unclear. Please ensure your contact information is up to date so you don’t miss important messages.

Front Circle Drop Off Reminders:

The front circle opened successfully this year, and we’re pleased with the results. To keep morning drop-off safe and efficient, please follow these guidelines:
  • Pull your vehicle all the way up to the staff member at the front of the line, if possible.
  • Drop off your child curbside.
  • Stay in your vehicle until your child is safely out of the car.
We appreciate your cooperation and support!

Main (Pillar) Entrance:

During the school day, the only entrance available for school business is the main entrance door. If you need to enter the building during the day for any reason you will need to use the buzzer, and our Security Monitor/Greeter will then unlock the door for entrance. You will then need to sign in to the building or sign your child out/in depending on the purpose of your visit. All visitors are expected to show proper identification and will be issued a temporary picture identification badge.
