Monthly Newsletter - May 2026

Dear Warrensburg Elementary Parents and Guardians:
As we welcome the month of May, we’re excited to share some upcoming updates and events happening at Warrensburg Elementary School. Our students have been busy with creative, engaging learning experiences throughout the month.
We encourage you to ask your child about what they’ve been working on in class—whether it’s art projects, reading activities, math practice, social studies learning, or science experiments. We’re proud of the energy and enthusiasm students are bringing to their classrooms, and it’s great to see learning thriving each day.

Teacher Appreciation Week: May 4th - May 8th
Let’s come together to celebrate and thank the incredible teachers, teaching assistants, and all staff who make a difference every day. During Teacher Appreciation Week, May 4th through May 8th, we’re showing our gratitude for their dedication, patience, and hard work—and for the positive impact they have on our children’s learning and growth.
Join us in recognizing the amazing work they do. Every note, kind word, and thoughtful gesture helps them feel valued and appreciated.

Elementary School Open House: May 13th - Pre-K-3 @ 6pm, Grades 4-6 @ 7 pm
Please join us at our annual Open House on Thursday, May 13th. PK-3 starts at 6pm and grades 4-6 are invited from 7:00pm until 8:00pm. All classroom and special area teachers will be present to showcase the work your children have completed. The Open House provides an excellent opportunity to gain insights into our curriculum and observe the progress that your children are making. We are very excited to be able to host Open House for our families once again this year, and look forward to seeing you on May 13th!

Family Engagement
We encourage families to stay involved and connected. Your participation in school events is invaluable to fostering a strong community. Be sure to check our newsletter, website and social media for updates on upcoming events and concerts.

Thank you for your continuous support and involvement. Here’s to a wonderful month ahead filled with learning, growth, and community spirit!

Sincerely,
Mr. Damian Switzer

WES Musical: Willy Wonka Jr.

Congratulations to the actors, stage crew, teachers and everyone else involved in the musical production of Willy Wonka! It was a wonderful experience both nights! We could tell that the students worked hard on memorizing their lines and practicing their songs. To the stage crew who helped make the scenery and moved the backdrops throughout the production, the show could not go on without you. To the staff and adults who helped put this together, what a wonderful opportunity you have provided for our students. Way to go!

WES is a Green Shield School

Congratulations to Warrensburg Elementary School for being recognized by The Positivity Project for its strong commitment to building character, relationships, and a positive school culture among teachers, students, and families.

The Green Shield School Award honors schools that consistently implement Positivity Project lessons and weave character strengths and positive relationships into the everyday life of their community. Earning this recognition means more than meeting requirements—it reflects a meaningful, long-term impact created through daily character education and intentional relationship-building.

This achievement is a testament to the dedication of our entire school community. WES earning Green Shield status for the 2025–26 school year—among more than 800 schools across 25 states—is truly exceptional!

Staff Recognition

Congratulations to Alex Delaney, Nolan Lamy, Amanda Dunleavy, Tyler McKernon, and Ashley Bennett on being granted tenure at the April Board of Education meeting. This significant achievement reflects their hard work, commitment, and positive impact on our students and the entire school community.

State Assessments for Grades 3-6

Last month, students in grades 3–6 were administered the NYS Assessments in ELA. Grade 5 also participated in the Science 5 assessment. To help students feel confident and motivated, our school held a brief pep rally to get everyone “pumped up” about doing their best and demonstrating what they’ve learned so far this year.

On test day, younger students cheered and offered high fives as our students walked through the hallways in the morning. We’re grateful for the encouragement and community spirit that helped set a positive tone.

We encourage families to support their children at home by practicing skills and discussing the importance of these assessments. Please ensure students are well rested, arrive on time, and are ready to do their best. We can’t wait to see how they do!

Math Testing Dates for Grades 3–6:

Pride Assembly

P2 Pride Assembly Program

Warrensburg Elementary School reinforces that everyone in our building is expected to follow the rules of being Safe, Responsible, and Respectful in all areas of the school. Each month, we host a WES PRIDE Assembly to reinforce these behaviors and to recognize students who exemplify P2 Pride characteristics.

Stay tuned for more information as we celebrate our students and their #EMPOWERED positive actions that inspire our entire school community!

WES Positivity Project Themes

May Character Strength: Purpose
What does PURPOSE mean? You have beliefs about the meaning of life and your life’s purpose. You seek to be part of something greater than yourself.

Individuals with this strength might be described as:
     * A Planner - Determined
     * Focused - Resolute
     * Purposeful - Goal-Oriented

Attendance:

Regular school attendance is crucial for your child's academic success and social development.
When students attend school consistently, they not only keep up with lessons and important skills, but they also engage with their peers, fostering friendships and teamwork. Every day in the classroom provides unique learning experiences that contribute to your child’s growth.

If your child is absent from school, please contact Mrs. Seeley in the attendance office with the reason for the absence. She can be reached by phone at #518-623-9747 x197 or via email: seeleyk@wcsd.org. Our school uses Parent Square to contact you when the reason for an absence is unclear. Please ensure your contact information is up to date so you don’t miss important messages.

Front Circle Drop Off Reminders:

The front circle opened successfully this year, and we’re pleased with the results. To keep morning drop-off safe and efficient, please follow these guidelines:
  • Pull your vehicle all the way up to the staff member at the front of the line, if possible.
  • Drop off your child curbside.
  • Stay in your vehicle until your child is safely out of the car.
We appreciate your cooperation and support!

Main (Pillar) Entrance:

During the school day, the only entrance available for school business is the main entrance door. If you need to enter the building during the day for any reason you will need to use the buzzer, and our Security Monitor/Greeter will then unlock the door for entrance. You will then need to sign in to the building or sign your child out/in depending on the purpose of your visit. All visitors are expected to show proper identification and will be issued a temporary picture identification badge.
